Nii Ashietey meets Tema Chiefs

Accra April 9, GNA - Nii Armah Ashietey, the Greater Accra Regional Minister on Thursday bemoaned the numerous land litigations and the parading of multiple chiefs in the region. Nii Ashietey described litigation as a waste of resources, noting that monies used for litigation could be used in developing the region. He said the parading of multiple chiefs was also impeding the region's development recalling the immense roles chiefs had played in the region's development over the years.

The Minister made these remarks when he received Chiefs and Elders of Tema and Kpone in Accra and pledged to work with chiefs in the development of the region. The Minister gave an assurance that he would not meddle in the affairs of chieftaincy institution saying, "I will not install or destool any chief."

He however pointed out that he would not support any chief that would cause mayhem in the region On the Ga lands, Nii Ashietey said government would study the issues and ensure that the lands were used for the intended purposes. He appealed to the chiefs to employ professionals to help in the land management because land could be used as equity shares for unborn generations. He also appealed to them to preserved farmlands in order to boost agriculture.

Nii Armah Ashiety said government was going to work out modalities so that fisherman would be provided with soft loans and also purchase premix fuel at a reduced cost.

On the uproar over the appointment of Municipal and District Chief Executive Officers the Minister pleaded with the public to accept and work with the appointees because office holders who failed to perform would be removed.

He announced that the Tema Municipal Assembly would from next week remove all containers and kiosks sitting on some principal streets in Tema.

Nii Adjei Kraku II, the Tema Mantse commended the Minister for working tirelessly in the development of Tema and its surroundings. Nii Tetteh Otu II, Kpone Mantse urged the Minister to tackle issues on waste management with urgency.
