New laws to guide renewal of drivers’ license

Drivers going to renew their licenses every two years – as stipulated by the country’s road traffic regulations – would have to go through training to refresh their ability to drive and their knowledge on regulations.

This, according to Cheyuo Wienaa Musah, the Director for Driver Training, Testing and Licensing at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), is a requirement of the new Legislative Instrument 2180 of the 2012 Road Traffic Regulations Act.

Mr. Wienaa Musah made this known while speaking with TV3’s Catherine Frimpongmaa on Friday, May 16.

“We intend to use the driver-training institutions that we have and there are a number of them across the country,” he said.

Mr Wienaa Musah announced that the Authority is also going to run short courses in order to qualify drivers for the mandatory license renewal every two years.

“We are now in discussion to formulate the structure of the course,” he admitted.

He said the course will be made flexible and it will run maximum three hours on a day.
