New chief, queenmother for Matsekope-Ada outdoored

Matsekope-Ada, April 28, GNA - The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Sheikh I. C. Quaye, ahs appealed to traditional rulers to do everything within their power to safeguard the chieftaincy institution and foster unity among the people.

"The chieftaincy institution is an honourable one and those in charge of it should be mindful of their actions," he said. Speaking at a thanksgiving service and outdooring of a chief and a queen mother of Matsekope-Ada in the Dangme East District of the Greater Accra Region on Sunday, he appealed to chiefs and other traditional rulers to avoid tendencies that could foment trouble in their areas. He called on the newly outdoored chief, Nene Ayiku Adjovu I and the queenmother, Naana Adu Akrofi I to be humble and listen to advice from elders for the total development of Matsekope-Ada.

Sheikh Quaye urged the people to be tolerant of each other's views as the election approached in order to avoid trouble since it could impede the development of the area.

Stanley Nii Adjiri Blankson, Mayor of Accra, called on the Nene Adjovu and the Naana Akrofi to take good care of the property of Mastekope-Ada and also be transparent in all their deeds. He praised the Christian and Muslim communities for their peaceful coexistence and urged them to continue upholding religious tolerance.

"Your newly crowned queenmother is a Muslim and the chief, a Christian. This is an indication that the two religions can co-exist and Christians and Muslims work together peacefully," he said. In a sermon the Reverend Enoch Tettey of Matsekope-Ada Presbyterian Church urged the chief and the queenmother to be dependent on God in whatever they do. They should avoid nepotism and tendencies which could bring about division among the people.

"Let the Almighty guide you in all your deeds so that there will be peace, love and harmony among your people," he added.

Nene Adjovu pledged to uphold all the customs of the land and work hard to ensure progress in the area.

Nene Adjovu was an elected Assembly member for Mastekope/Koluedor electoral area and a graduate of Marketing from the Institute of Management Studies in Kumasi.

Naana Akrofi is a businesswoman.
