Saltpond, (C/R), Aug. 24, GNA - The Mfantseman West Constituency Women's Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Miss Esi Dankwa has said that the creation of a separate Ministry for Women and Children's Affairs has enhanced the status of the Ghanaian woman.

Miss Dankwa has therefore, urged women to reciprocate the gesture by rallying behind the government to enable it do more to improve their standard of living.

She gave the advice when inaugurating women executives of seven units created within the Saltpond zone of the party. They are Saltpond, Nankesido, Abonko, Anokye, Awoya, Kuntu and Hinii.

Miss Dankwa said she decided to break the zone into smaller units to enhance effective administration and dissemination of information. "By this, people need not to go to the constituency office before getting information about government policies and programmes.

Mr Vincent Biney Amissah, Mfantseman District Co-ordinator of Ghana Red Cross Society advised the new executives to regard their position as a call to service but not as an opportunity to lord it over the members. He advised them to educate their fellow women on their rights and responsibilities to prevent others, especially men from taking them for a ride.

Mr Joseph Boison, the constituency secretary advised the new executives to be conversant with government policies and programmes to enable them to counteract activities of the party's detractors. He urged them to embark on house-to-house campaigns to let the people know the good intentions of the government.

Mr J.D. Ehuren, the constituency chairman added his voice to the appeal made by the Mfantseman District Assembly for the President Mr J.A. Kufour to appoint a substantive District Chief Executive for the area. Mr Ehuren said in the absence of a substantive DCE and because the Member of Parliament for the area is not a member of NPP, the work in the constituency has become extremely difficult.
