NPP bags 250 million cedis from nomination fees in Volta Region

Ho, Aug. 14, GNA- Out of a total of One billion cedis collected as nomination fees from candidates for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency primaries throughout the country, the Volta Region recorded of 250 million cedis, Mr Dan Botwe, NPP General Secretary told Journalists at a press soiree in Ho on Wednesday.

He said the figure was an indication of "the turning of political tables" in the region regarded as a stronghold of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Mr Botwe who had earlier met Regional Executives of Party over a problem in the Ho-Central Constituency, said the Region is high in the reckoning of the NPP to win the 2004 elections.

He said the region was leading other regions in the number of newly registered members but did not give figures.

Mr Botwe presented a new fax machine and a computer with accessories for use at the refurbished Regional Secretariat of the Party to enhance its work.

He said the items were donated by foreign branches of the Party as part of their contribution towards "a resounding victory" in the next general elections.

Mr Botwe said primaries in the Akan Constituency in the Region and other constituencies with Independent Candidates in Parliament were working in the interest of the government, has been deferred until June, next year.
