NPP Chairman appeals to supporters to unite

Dormaa Ahenkro (B/A), May 29, GNA - Mr. James Yeboah Asuamah, First Vice Chairman of the Dormaa West Constituency branch of the New Patriotic Part (NPP) has appealed to members to forge the type of unity that would keep the party in shape to retain power in the December general election.

He asked them to remain calm in the face of intimidation and insults and rather concentrate on the campaign to ensure the party's resounding victory in the election.

Mr. Asuamah, a 50-year-old teacher, was speaking to the Ghana News Agency after assuming duty as Constituency Chairman after the position became following the resignation of Mr. Atta Amponsah, who is vying for the parliamentary seat.

He urged the party's supporters to co-operate with him and other members of the executive to enable the party to retain the parliamentary seat in the constituency.

Mr. Wilson Kwasi Damoah, Secretary, explained that the party's constitution demanded that in the absence of a Chairman, the first Vice Chairman should act in the position.

He said elections would soon be held to elect a substantive Chairman.

In another development Mr. Vincent Oppong-Asamoah, a 38-year-old Manager of Olam Ghana Limited at Nkawie in Ashanti has been elected as the NDC parliamentary candidate for the Dormaa West seat.

He polled 182 votes to beat Mr. Abraham Lincoln Amoateng, former District Chief Executive who had 111 votes in the elections supervised by officials of the Electoral Commission.

Mr. Collins Dauda, Brong Ahafo Regional Chairman of the party commended the two contestants and their supporters for their high level of discipline and comportment during and after the election. He called on supporters and members of the party to intensify the campaign to win more people into their fold to enable the party to win the December general election.

The Regional Chairman advised them to avoid indecent and inflammatory statements during their campaigns and not to attack their political opponents.

Mr. Dickson Addai, Constituency Chairman, expressed optimism that the NDC would win both the parliamentary and presidential votes in the area and appealed to the supporters to evolve effective strategies to achieve this.

Mr. Oppong-Asamoah in his acceptance speech thanked the delegates for the confidence reposed in him and promised to use his youthful energies to mobilize the youth to help the party to realise its goals. Present were Mr. Emmanuel Duku, Dormaa District Chief Executive and Mr. Damoah, NPP Secretary.
