NPP Constituency Chairman expresses concern over land sales

Bolgatanga, August 2, GNA - Mr Anarachima Akapire, Bolgatanga Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper East Region, on Wednesday expressed worries about the spate of land sales by some of the residents.

Speaking to the Ghana New Agency (GNA) in Bolgatanga Mr Akapire stated that most of the communities in the Region had virtually sold all their lands leaving nothing for other family members and future generations.

Mr Akapire, who is also a farmer, observed that if the situation was not stopped, many children in future would find it difficult to get land for development.

"If the practice is not stopped our future generation would be jeopardised since they may not even have a place to build", he indicated.

He cautioned community members to consider the future generation when disposing of their lands and to ensure that some portions of land were reserved for them.

The Constituency Chairman appealed to opinion leaders from the Region to educate the people on the dangerous implication of land sales leaving nothing for posterity.

He urged the Bolgatanga, Navrongo, Bongo and Tongo (BONABOTO) Union to join in the public sensitisation effort to advise the people to stop the practice.
