NHIA holds Review Conference at Winneba

A three-day performance review conference organized by the Central Regional Directorate of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) is under way at Winneba.

Fifty-two participants, made up of scheme managers, accountants, public relation officers, and information communication technology managers, drawn from the 13 schemes in the region, are taking part.

Issues being discussed include, biometric registration, financial positions of the schemes, providers/schemes relationship, staffing, logistics, sensitization challenges, and strategies to achieve the set goals for the year 2015.

Opening the conference on Wednesday, Mr Francis Oti Fremong, the Regional Director of the NHIA praised workers of the NHIA in the Region for their high sense of commitment, and preparedness to accept the challenge to promote the aims and objectives of the NHIA policy, through the effective implementation of the biometric registration and renewal system.

Mr Frempong announced that the region recorded a total of 663,611 new memberships last year, as against the targeted 866,831 clients planned for the period under review.

He attributed the region’s failure to achieve the expected number for 2014 to the introduction of the biometric system during the first quarter of the past year.

Mr Frempong gave the assurance that the region would record 100 per cent for the new target of 729,978 fresh members it has set itself this year, because the NHIA workers in the region have vowed to meet the target through hard work and deeper commitment towards official duties.

The Regional Director assured NHIA workers in the region of the Authority’s determination to provide them with the much-expected incentives to motivate hardworking schemes to ensure increased productivity.
