NGO ask parents to show commitment to children's education

Akim Oda (E/R), June 18, GNA - The Executive Director of Young and Lonely Foundation, Ghana, a non-governmental organisation has urged parents to show commitment to the education of their children. "As stakeholders, you have to help to redeem the falling standard of education in your jurisdiction," he stressed. Mr Gilbert Kofi Germain was addressing a forum dubbed: 93Invest in Your Child's Education", organised by the Foundation for a cross-section of parents, the youth and teachers at Jamaica, a suburb of Akim Oda in the Birim Central Municipality of the Eastern Region. The Agona-Swedru-based Foundation offers aid for child for child development project and promotes national child capacity development programmes.

Mr Germain noted that the initial moral training of children was fundamentally the responsibility of parents in order to avoid moral delinquency in the society.

The Executive Director said it was the duty of parents to set the pace for the general training of their children, before teachers set in to help enhance the virtues already acquired at home. Mr German said efforts to provide quality education in Ghana would fail, if teachers were not competent and hard working. He noted that the essence of education was to equip a person to effectively participate in the socio-economic activities of his or her community to facilitate the development process. The Foundation has organised similar activities at Akim Achiase, Akim Swedru and Agona Swedru, 18 June 11
