NGO and university sign agreement to improve public health

Kumasi, July 7, GNA - The Loma Linda University (LLU) in Califonia, USA, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Breast Care International (BCI), breast cancer awareness NGO in Kumasi, to develop and implement public health related projects in Ghana.

The goal is to enhance service delivery to improve public health, health care services, programme development and workforce development.

The three-year partnership agreement, which took effect from July 1, was signed by Dr Richard Hart, President of LLU, and Dr Mrs Beatrice Wiafe Addai, Chief Executive Officer of BCI.

It would be renewed every three years.

Under the terms of the agreement the two organizations agreed to collaborate in personnel training and development, practice and practice-based research as well as technical assistance.

The two institutions would collaborate on the training of faculty, staff and students either on short-term or long-term basis in the development of community based public health programmes and health administration through training and resource sharing.

They would also work together to secure joint funding to enhance their capacities.

Again, the LLU would provide technical assistance to BCI for collaborative grant funding opportunities.

LLU and BCI seek a long term relationship and would make every effort to work together in a spirit of openness, trust and good faith in the planning and implementation of educational and research services in public health, it said.
