NGO adopts Swedru government hospital children's ward

Agona Swerdu, Aug 22, GNA - The Nakfo Social Development Club, a Community based Non-Governmental Organization has adopted the Children's Ward of the Swedru Government Hospital to ensure its regular maintenance.

Mr Ralf Botchway, President of the Club who announced this at the first anniversary of the organization said it would purchase mattresses and beds and paint the Ward every year.

He said the government alone could not shoulder the huge cost of national development and demands from other sectors in the district. Mr Botchway commended the Agona District Assembly and the MP for Agona West, Mr Samuel Obodai, for the construction of Nurses quarters and a fence around the hospital from his share of the District Assembly Common Fund.

He called on the Agona District Assembly to construct access roads in the communities to facilitate the accurate demarcation of households. Mr Botchway expressed concern about inability of the District Assembly to check haphazard land development and those who built houses without permits.

He said the organisation had embarked on a programme to educate public about the dangers of the spread of the HIV/AIDS pandemic and expressed the appreciation to the Swedru Police Command for protecting life and property.

Chief Superintendent Justice Kofi Asante, Agona Swedru Divisional Police Commander, said the activities of armed robbers had been curtailed due to effective day and night patrols. He assured the people of the preparedness of the Police to protect them at all times but urged them to offer useful information to promote their work. Chief Superintendent Asante praised the NGO for its high sense of responsibility in assisting the public.
