NDC urges Government to rehabilitate evicted victims

Koforidua, May 04, GNA - The Eastern Region Secretariat of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on the Government to rehabilitate evicted victims of the Digya National Park. The call was made in a press statement issued by the Secretariat at Koforidua and copied to the Ghana News Agency.

The statement, signed by Mr Anthony Gyampo, Eastern Regional Secretary of the party, alleged that, victims who survived the boat disaster had no effective medical care and their children were not attending school.

It appealed to the Government not to wait for the findings of the committee before measures were instituted to save the evicted people from an imminent disaster.

The statement expressed concern about the delay in rehabilitating the victims a month after their eviction during which some of them died in a boat disaster, others were still living in the open without decent shelter and being sustained through the benevolence of charitable organizations and philanthropists.

It said the party would respect the appeal by the sector Minister for Ghanaians to remain calm until findings of the committee set up to investigate the eviction exercise and the disaster had been published, but "We find it difficult to respect the appeal of the Minister when no effective solution has been put in place to solve the plight of those evicted."
