NDC Demands Suspension of Award of Contracts

Northern Regional Secretariat of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called for the immediate suspension of all contract awards and the payment of impending cheques until further notice.

It has therefore directed heads of the regional departments of the Ghana Highway Authority, Feeder and the Urban Roads to comply with the directive until the positions of a Regional Minister and a Metropolitan Chief Executive are occupied by the respective appointees.

The main concern of the NDC secretariat is to unveil what it described as a monstrous act of gross injustice perpetuated by the former administration with regard how contracts were awarded and to make sure the trend is reversed.

This came to light when a 10- man delegation led by Alhaji Sumani Zakari Northern Regional Chairman of the NDC on Monday stormed the offices of the aforementioned road construction departments in the region.

When contacted on the issue, Emmanuel Preko, Regional Engineer of the Ghana Highway Authority confirmed the said act and said the matter had been referred to the head office in Accra for redress.

Meanwhile, contractors who have ongoing projects and those whose certificates are yet to be signed have pleaded with the government not to temper national interest with political vendetta.
