NCWD organises workshop on insurance for women entrepreneurs

Kumasi, Feb. 17, GNA - Mr Felix Enin, Salesman of the State Insurance Company (SIC) in Kumasi, has appealed to the National Insurance Commission to set aside some funds to help educate the public on the importance of insurance policies in the country.

This, he said, would help erase the misconception many people have about the policies of some insurance companies.

Mr Enin made the appeal at a day's workshop on the importance of insurance for women entrepreneurs organised by the National Council on Women and Development (NCWD) in Kumasi on Thursday.

The function attended by over 170 participants selected from the various districts in the Ashanti Region include the district assemblies, Prisons Police Service and the churches, was designed to sensitise them on the need to adopt insurance policies as entrepreneurs.

He noted that to avoid risks in the cause of the performance of their duties, there was the need to adopt some insurance policies to protect them against eventualities.

Mr Enin stressed the need to adopt such policies against losses in natural disasters like floods, rainstorm, fires and accidents, which might result in deaths or injuries.

He advised clients of insurance companies to ensure that they have up-to-date and genuine records of their documents to enable them to collect their insurance claims.

Miss Elizabeth Botchway, Ashanti Regional Co-ordinator of the NCWD, said the programme formed part of activities marking the 30th anniversary celebration of the NCWD in March this year.

She urged the women groups to adopt insurance policies to give them protection in the future.

Mrs Mercy Nkrumah, a teacher, who presided at the function also appealed to the various insurance companies to review their cumbersome procedures in the collection of insurance claims to enable the public to have confidence in their performance.
