NCCE holds school competition to climax constitution week

Assin Foso (C/R), May 21, GNA - Carolyn Stroman Junior Secondary School (JSS) at Assin Foso placed first in a quiz competition organised by the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) to round off the activities marking this year's constitution week celebration in the Assin district on Thursday.

The school scored 81 points to beat FOSCO demonstration and New Town International JSS, which had 49 and 46 points respectively to place second and third.

Mr Thomas Yallow, NCCE district director, said the competition was a way of measuring the depth of the students' knowledge of the provisions of the 1992 constitution, as well as their knowledge of current affairs.

Mr Yallow said national integration could be achieved if the people tolerated each other and that was why it chose "national integration through tolerance" as the theme for the celebration of this year's constitutional week.

He appealed to Ghanaians to always root for the rule of law, equality and democratic governance to ensure socio-political stability for development.

Touching on the photo taking exercise, Mr Yallow urged students to remind their parents and relatives to have their pictures taken because it is their civic responsibility.

Mr John Kingsley Arhin, a former presiding member of Mfantseman district assembly, congratulated the participants and encouraged them to study hard so that they could participate in similar competitions at the national level.

Carolyn Stroman and Fosco Demonstration Junior Secondary schools were each presented with a wall clock.
