A 60-year-old staff member of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) at Mamponteng, Kwame Obeng, has reportedly drowned in the River Abena Feam at Abira, a community in the Kwabre East Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
According to a report by adomonline.com, Obeng’s lifeless body was discovered in the river on Wednesday morning, September 10, 2025.
The cause of death is yet to be established.
The Abira Chief Linguist, Nana Adu Adjei, revealed that the deceased had been recovering from a stroke prior to the incident.
“A day before this sad news, he was in town and informed his wife that he was going to the nearby community, Krobo, but he did not return home that evening,” Nana Adjei said.

The deceased, a former Assembly Member for Abira, was married with one daughter.
The chief of the town noted that this is the second time a body has been found in the river and urged residents, particularly the youth, to avoid visiting the river on Tuesdays, which is considered a sacred day.

The Antoa Police have retrieved the body and transported it to the mortuary for an autopsy.
