NADMO initiates HIV/AIDS awareness project

Takoradi, July 5, GNA- The Western Region National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has initiated HIV/AIDS Awareness Creation Project for its staff in the region. Madam Sophia Horner-Sam, Deputy Regional Minister, launched the project at a one-day Capacity Building and Training Workshop on HIV/AIDS for the regional staff of NADMO in Takoradi on Friday. She announced that the government, through the Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC) is funding various groups to sensitise the public about the disease. She said the pandemic has become a health, developmental and social problem, which requires cautious approach in handling it.

Madam Horner-Sam said the negative effects of HIV/AIDS on the socio-economic well-being of the nation cannot be over emphasised and that is why the government is anxious to sensitise the youth who are particularly vulnerable and worst hit by HIV/AIDS. She, therefore, cautioned the youth to abstain from casual sex so as not to be at risk.

Mr Padmore Kofi Yonkopa Arthur, the regional co-ordinator of NADMO said the target group is the staff, their immediate family members and close friends. He said it is expected that the staff of NADMO will change their sexual life styles and adopt safer sex styles along with family members and their close friends.
