Mourning artisans impede traffic in Sunyani

Sunyani, June 6, GNA - Artisans nearly visited the recent incident at Ashaiman on Sunyani when they mourned a colleague but for great restraint exercised by the police there would have been another horror story to tell.

They impeded the free flow of traffic near the imposing COCOBOD building at the heart of the regional capital. They sang, danced in the street and fired musketry.

The artisans, who wore red arm and head bands, harassed drivers and made such excessive noise that disturbed workers in their offices while the unarmed police personnel stood by to ensure that it did not degenerate into any nasty confrontation. Chief Inspector Yaw Nketia, Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Public Relations Officer, condemned the action by the artisans since they failed to inform the police about the function. He told the GNA that the police personnel were detailed to ensure that sanity prevailed and to arrest recalcitrant ones who would attempt to cause mayhem and confusion. Mr Nketia said action would be taken against the group for the unwarranted firing of musketry, road traffic offences and the illegal social gathering.

He appealed to groups and associations to desist from flouting laws and regulations.
