Motorbikes, bicycles without light at night banned in Winneba

Winneba (C/R), Sept. 1 GNA-The Winneba Police Command has banned the movement of motor bicycles and bicycles without light during the night in Winneba township with immediate effect.

ASP. Jordan Quaye, Winneba District Police Commander, in a statement to the press said that anybody found on motor and bicycles without light during the night in the town would be arrested and prosecuted. He said any person riding motorcycles and bicycles without helmet would also be arrested and made to face the law. Drivers or riders found driving or riding unregistered vehicles and motorcycles would have themselves to blame, he said.

ASP. Quaye said these were measures the police had taken to minimize accidents, reduce crime and ensure peace and tranquility in Winneba. He therefore, appealed to the people to cooperate with the police in their efforts to maintain law and order in the district by giving out information about criminals, including wee smokers, to the police. Meanwhile the police have embarked on an exercise to detain vehicles which had non been authorized to use sirens to ensure discipline on roads in the district.

ASP Quaye said it is only the Presidential convoy, police, ambulance services and Fire Service that are permitted by law to use sirens. 01 Sept. 07
