Motivate unit committee to work - Odikro

Ntribuoho (Ash), May 5, GNA - Nana Kofi Mensah, Odikro of Ntribuoho, has called on the government to evolve strategies to motivate unit committees to work.

He stressed that due to the lack of motivation, most unit committee were not functioning as expected of them in the district.

Nana Mensah said this at a day's forum on "Rights and Duties" organised by the Kwabre Directorate of the National Commission for civic Education (NCCE) in collaboration with the Kwabre Civic Union as part of the celebration of the District's Constitution Week at Ntribuoho on Wednesday.

The chief indicated that most members of the committees were at times assaulted, stressing that a case in point which happened in the town was pending at the Offinso Circuit Court.

Mr Emmanuel Ani-Boye, the District Director of the NCCE, noted that too much sympathy for offenders was among the factors hampering the development of the country.

He stressed the need for people to be bold and courageous to point out the faults of people so that they did not repeat such mistakes, adding that there was the need for people to be law-abiding to ensure good governance.

Mr Ani-Boye said in this democratic dispensation people did not have to sit on the fence and expect the people they voted for to do things for them.

"Let us all sit up and help the government and other governing bodies to correct the wrongs in the society so that the country becomes a good place for us to live in", he said.

Nana Yaw Boateng, Dadiesoabahene of Kumasi, commended the government for its efforts to accelerate the socio-economic development of the country.

The chief, who expressed concern about falling standards in education in the town, advised the pupils, parents and the teachers to sit down and find lasting solution to the problem.

Nana Boateng called on the people to unite and organise more communal activities to enhance the rapid development of the community. Mr Kwaku Antwi, Kwabre District Community Facilitator of the Government Accountability Improves Trust (GAIT), an NGO operating in the District, urged the people to form civil society organisations to advocate on issues affecting their welfare.
