More people rush to change their monies at Tema

Tema, July 03, GNA -- Despite the call by Bank of Ghana (BoG) officials on Ghanaians not to rush to the bank to change their old currencies for new ones, more people in Tema stormed the banks not to cash money but to change the old for the new.

They filled the banking halls of Ghana Commercial Bnak, Barclays, Standard Chartered and National Investment Bank to capacity and slowed down business transaction making officials too busy to talk to newsmen. Some of the people told GNA that they wanted to satisfy their curiosity to ascertain whether the value of the old and the new currencies were the same as advertised.

Madam Constance Owusuaah, a middle aged trader, said she wanted to ensure the security of her deposit at GCB and therefore asked her son to join the queue as early as 0600 hours to enable her leave early but at 1000 she was still in the queue and had not been served.

Those who were served with the new cedi notes had mixed feelings as some said it was handy to facilitate business transactions. Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner of Police, John Kudalor, Tema Regional Police Commander, who visited some of the banks gave the assurance that the police in Tema would deal with those who had negative intention to cheat on others.
