More communities in KEEA District to get electricity

Elmina, July 6, GNA - The minister of Energy, Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, on Saturday, gave the assurance that plans were far advanced to hook ten more communities in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) District to the national electricity grid. The district capital, Elmina, would also to be provided with a new transformer to boost power supply.

The minister, gave the assurance when he addressed a durbar of the chiefs and people of the Edina traditional area to climax the celebration of their annual 'bakatue' festival. The festival, coincided with activities marking 15 years of the creation of the district on the theme: "15 years of socio-economic development in the KEEA District, the way forward."

On other projects, the minister, said work on the Accra-Yamoransa road, would soon begin, and that the contract on that portion of the road, from Mallam to Kasoa, which was to be developed into a dual carriageway, had been awarded. He appealed to the chiefs to provide land to enable him solicit support for the construction of a library for the area, to step up education. Dr. Nduom, who contested and lost his bid for the area's

parliamentary seat in the last elections, used the opportunity to announce his intention to make another bid for the seat next year. He commended the New Patriotic Party(NPP) government for offering him the opportunity to "serve Ghanaians" and appealed to all Ghanaians to desist from discouraging patriotic people who were willing to see the development of their people. The minister, said it was his desire to serve his people and that he was determined to help ensure that both human and material resources in the area were fully utilised to enhance their living conditions. He called for their support, and hinted that he was already canvassing for support from functionaries of the various political parties in the area. He did not however, disclose the party on whose ticket he would be contesting the seat, but said he was determined to win and that he would "not be a gentleman politician this time round."

Mr. Bob Hansen, a representative of the Dutch Ambassador, asked all citizens of Elmina living abroad to join in providing funding towards the implementation of the "Elmina 2015 strategy" which sought to give the township a face-lift. Nana Kodwo Condua VI, Omanhene of the Edina traditional area, renewed his appeal to all opposing factions in the Elmina chieftaincy dispute to bury their differences and place the development of the town above their interests.
