Mmofraturo School holds fifth graduation ceremony

Kumasi, July 23, GNA - Mmofraturo Girls' Preparatory School in Kumasi on Saturday held its fifth graduation ceremony for class six pupils entering its junior secondary school and kindergarten who were also promoted to class one.

At the class six levels, out of the 146 pupils who sat for the examination conducted by the school, 129 qualified to enter the JSS while 37 children from the kindergarten were promoted to class one. Speaking at the ceremony attended by parents, officials from the Ghana Education Service (GES), heads of schools, faith organisations and old students, Nana Agyeman Opambuor, Assistant Headmaster of Kumasi Wesley Girls' Secondary School, was happy that the school continued to hold open days for the public to know the progress of the school. He said graduation could be described as an end to an effort but for continued students, it is the time to gird their loins as they enter a new level of education.

Nana Opambuor, who is the Gyaasehene of Nsuta traditional area, therefore urged the children not to relent in their efforts to persevere vigorously by taking advantage of the facilities at the disposal to improve their academic performance. He underscored the importance of education in human endeavours and said though expensive, it behoved parents and other stakeholders to help promote education to facilitate the development of the country. Mrs Stella Lucy Adoma, Headteacher of the school, said the graduation ceremony introduced by the school had encouraged competitive spirit among the children. She said the school set up by the Methodist Church of Ghana now has kindergarten, preparatory, JSS and a senior secondary school, an indication that the dream of the school has come through. Mrs Adoma appealed to parents and the church to continue to support the school in all its efforts to promote girl-child education so that the nation got more women who could contribute effectively to the socio-economic development of the country. The headteacher paid glowing tribute to the past headteachers and staff of the school and urged the present core of staff to continue to support the development and the welfare of the children. Three long serving teachers were honoured by the school. They were Mr Solomon Boakye, Mr John Sarfo and Mrs Margaret Aidoo. 23 July 06
