Ministry to construct four bailey bridges in Agona West

Agona Swedru, May 24, GNA - The Ministry of Roads is to construct four bailey bridges on the River Akora in Agona Swedru to ease traffic congestion in the Agona West Municipality.

Mr Felix Jacob Obeng-Forson, the Municipal Chief Executive, told the third Ordinary meeting of the Assembly at Agona Swedru that the Ministry had completed negotiations with the relevant agencies for commencement of work. He said the four bridges would be sited on the River Akora between Greenland Hotel and Mahodwe at Otabilkrom, Mahodwe-Zabon-Zongo, Dasuanim-Nkubem and Nkranfo-Nyakorm all in the Municipality. Mr Obeng-Forson said the assembly had proposed to collect tolls on the bye-pass bridge to generate funds for the maintenance of the bridge. Mr Obeng-Forson said the assembly had acquired plots of land to be shared among the youth to cultivate vegetables and other crops. He pointed out that the assembly is planning a block farm project at Otapirow and Agona Nyakrom where 1,000 farmers would be given credit facilities to increase food production. He said the assembly has selected 60 women to be trained in financial management to improve on their businesses, adding that the assembly will also construct three cassava processing centres at Edukrom, Nusansah and Nkum. Mr Obeng-Forson said the assembly had acquired land at Agona Abodom and Nyakrom for a forestation programme.
