Ministry seeks collaboration for National Sanitation Day

The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) is to collaborate with Ghana Prison Service to increase participation in the National Sanitation Day Campaign set for first Saturday of every month.

The partnership is aimed at promoting efforts among MLGRD and the service to put new innovative ideas together to ensure the success of the Clean Ghana agenda through inmates at the prisons.

Mr Julius Debrah, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development made this known when he visited Director General of Ghana Prison Service, Mrs Matilda Baffuor Awuah, Ghana Girls Growth and Ghana Scout Association (GSA).

Mr Debrah said the campaign is to promote attitudinal change among the citizenry in the areas of sanitation, environmental health and the disposal of garbage.

Mrs Awuah assured the minister that the service study the proposal and make recommendations that would make the campaign successful.

Mrs Juliana Ofori-Kissi, Chief Commissioner of Ghana Girls Growth said the association is aware of the campaign and assured the Minister that members would embrace it.

She said the association with about 12,000 members would sell the idea to promote a clean Ghana.

Mr Gregory Manful, Commissioner in Chief of the GSA said the association would be happy to be part of the campaign as it seeks to promote clean environment and promote health.

He promise to bring on board personnel of the association to promote the campaign and assured the minister of their commitment.
