Ministry renews curfew on Bawku, Gushegu

Accra, Sept. 6, GNA - The Ministry of the Interior on Monday renewed the curfews imposed on the Gushegu Township and Bawku Municipality and their immediate environs with effect from Monday, September 6 on the advice of the Northern and Upper East Security Councils respectively.

A statement signed by Mr Martin Amudu, the Minister for the Interior, said the curfew hours for Gushegu Township would remain from midnight to 4 am while those for Bawku Municipality would also remain from 11 pm to 4 am each day.

The statement said the government was encouraged by the efforts of the chiefs, elders, opinion leaders and the people of the areas at ensuring relative peace in their communities. "Government continues to urge them to work harder than ever before to sustain the peace to ensure rapid socio-economic development in their communities."

The Ministry also reiterated that there was a ban on all persons in the Gushegu Township and Bawku Municipality and their immediate environs from carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapons. "Any person found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted," the Ministry said.
