Minister presents relief items to schools hit by rainstorm

Mr Victor Smith, the Eastern Regional Minister, on Thursday presented relief items estimated at GH¢ 7,000 to two Senior High Schools (SHS) in the area.

The schools, Begoro Presbyterian SHS and the AME Zion SHS at Akyem Tafo were affected by rainstorm over the weekend.

The schools had the roofs of their classrooms blocks, dormitories and Home Science Department ripped off by the rainstorm.

Items presented to the schools included 50 packets of roofing sheets, roofing nails and 120 pieces of hard wood.

Others are a 4-burner gas cooker with oven and grill, 47 dining sets, 37 large mixing bowls, 20 pieces of Ashets and two boxes each of drinking cups and glasses to the Home Science Department to enable the students write their final examinations.

Mr Smith presenting the items said the quick response was because of the importance government attached to education.

He said the better Ghana Agenda required that nothing stood in the way of excellence, and government therefore was committed to improve facilities in all schools to facilitate teaching and learning in a good environment.

The Headmaster of the AME Zion SHS, Mr Daniel Okai, was grateful to the minister for the support particularly the equipment for the Home Science Department since they need the items urgently for their practical examination.

Mr Smith later inspected the seven-kilometre Kukurantumi-Asafo road which is progressing.**
