Minister donates to GNA Tamale Office

Tamale, Aug 1, GNA - Alhaji Mustapha Ali Idris, Northern

Regional Minister, has donated a 21-inch television set and a radio

cassette player valued at about GH¢300 to the Tamale Office of the

Ghana News Agency. Presenting the items Alhaji Idris said the donation was in

recognition of the agency's immense contribution to news

dissemination in the region in difficult conditions and times. "I recognise the support the media are giving to the region and I

as Minister. I have no doubt in my mind that the equipment would

motivate you to give off your best." The Regional Minister said he was touched when he once called

a staff of the Tamale Office and asked him to watch a news item on

the television but was told, "Minister, we have no such facility here

in the office". Alhaji Idris said he is a friend to all the media houses in the

region and that since the GNA is the mother of all, it should be the

first to receive such support, promising that the others would also

benefit in due course. The Regional Minister appealed to the people of Tamale and

political parties to support the Electoral Commission to conduct the

voter registration exercise peacefully. He urged the leadership of the political parties to educate their

members to behave maturely and desist from attempting to register

minors to ensure sanity in the exercise. Mr. Paul Osei-Tutu, Northern Regional Manager of the Agency

who received the equipment, expressed gratitude to the Minister

saying: "The Tamale Office and the GNA management would ever

remember you for the gesture". He appealed to well-meaning organisations and individuals to

help equip the Tamale Office to facilitate the agency's work.
