Minister commends Catholic Church

Mr Justice Samuel Adjei, Deputy Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, has commended the Catholic Church for its partnership towards accelerated national development. He observed that for several decades, the Catholic Church had played a unique role in human resource development, and provided social amenities to improve lives of both people in local and urban communities.

The Deputy Regional Minister gave the commendation at a send –off durbar in honour of Very Reverend Father Martino Corazzin, out-going Priest of the Sacred Heart Parish of the Roman Catholic Church in Sunyani on Friday.

Mr Adjei emphasized that the numerous educational infrastructure, health facilities and other social interventions, projects and programmes executed by the church in the Brong-Ahafo Region were highly unmatchable and incomparable. “While government focuses on the physical and other aspects of development, the Catholic Church in particular, on the other hand, continues emphasizing on the spiritual development of the citizenry,” he added.

Most Reverend Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, Catholic Bishop of Sunyani, said the Sacred Heart Parish and the Catholic Church in general, witnessed significant growth and development under the leadership of Rev Fr Corazzin 16 years ago.

He observed that aside of infrastructural development, many members of the church had gone through baptisms, confirmations, first communions, Christian marriages, sacrament of reconciliations, and counseling under the leadership of Rev Fr Corazzin.

Most Rev Gyamfi thanked the out-going parish priest for his dedication to duty and commitment to the work of God. Rev Fr Corazzin, who has been transferred to Elmina, thanked the Sunyani Catholic Diocese for its support during his stay in Sunyani, and was optimistic that the diocese and members of the church would demonstrate similar support for his successor.

He appealed to the Diocese to maintain the standard set, and also discipline in the various schools. Rev Fr Corazzin advised parents to show keen interest in the education of their children, by providing them with basic learning and teaching materials.
