Minister calls for attention on funding of RCC

The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Antwi-Boasiako Sekyere has called for more attention on the funding of Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) in the draft consolidated Local Government Bill.

He explained that, such provision would provide the needed resources to ensure effective performance in the supervisory and coordinating role of the RCCs in the local governance system.

Mr Antwi-Boasiako made the call at the formal opening of the consultative meeting of the Legislative Review Task Force (LRTF) of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Decentralisation with Parliamentary Select Committees on Local Government, Subsidiary Legislation and Constitutional and Legal Affairs at Koforidua.

The aim of the consultation was to get inputs from the Parliamentary Select Committees into the final work of the draft Consolidated Local Government Bill.

He called for the speeding up of the process of the consultations and the passage of the bill into law to ensure that, the country benefits from the new bill.

The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Julius Debrah appealed to the drafters of the new Consolidated Local Government Bill to come out with a law that the ordinary people would understand.

Earlier, Dr Callistus Mahama, Head of the Local Government Service explained that, the aim of the new Consolidated Local Government Bill is to bring together, all the various legislations on the local government system under one law to help remove some of the contradictions in some of the laws.
