Mfantseman audit report implementation committee Inaugurated

Saltpond, Aug. 14, GNA - The Mfantseman Municipal Audit Report Implementation Committee has been inaugurated with a call on management of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to establish procurement plans that capture the strategic growth of the assemblies. Mr. Ransford Adjei, Deputy Director-General of the Audit Service Agency who made the call at Saltpong, urged management of MMDAs not to see the agency as made up of people whose interest was only finding faults.

"The main objective of auditing is to control expenditure, and also to determine how things are to be done to avoid waste," Mr. Adjei observed.

He urged the assemblies to establish audit plans to include the scope of operation of auditors to enhance co-existence and smooth administration.

The Deputy Director-General advised management of MMDAs to take any audit report, either internal or external seriously and to take steps to implement them.

He advised that any time the committee failed to solve a problem, that problem must be referred to the general assembly. Mr. Henry Kweku Hayfron, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), said the inauguration of the committee was in accordance with section 30 (1) of the Audit Service Act 2000, Act 584 (Act 658) which mandated every assembly to constitute an audit report implementation committee. He urged members of the committee to work hard to justify the confidence reposed in them.

The MCE urged them not to let audit reports to gather dust in drawers.

The five-member committee is under the chairmanship of the Presiding Member, with the Municipal Chief Executive and the Coordinating Director as members.

The other members are a member of the Finance and Administration sub-committee, and a representative from the Internal Audit Agency.
