Mfantseman District Health Directorate honour dedicated staff

Ekumfi Otuam (C/R), Feb. 17, GNA - The Mfantseman District Directorate of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has honoured 20 nurses, paramedics and four institutions for their hard work and effective collaboration.

Speaking at the presentation of awards, which coincided with the Directorate's annual end of year get-together, Mr Samuel Sosi, District Director, pointed out that any institution that did not reward hard work was not worth dying for.

He said the ceremony, which would be an annual affair was to motivate the workers to give off their best.

Mr Gershon Jerry Agbo, Central Regional Human Resource Manager of the GHS, commended the staff of the District Hospital and the Directorate for their collaboration and said the vision of the Service in the region was to strive for excellence in health-care delivery. It is our aim to see to it that anyone who comes to a health facility alive goes home alive, he said and announced an incentive package for the staff including the provision of 35 saloon cars on hire purchase, promotions, fellowship awards and training courses to improve their capacity.

He advised the workers to start preparing for their retirements so that they were not found wanting when their time was due.

Mr Robert Quainoo-Arthur, District Chief Executive (DCE), praised the Health Directorate for the good work of the staff and gave the assurance of the District Assembly's support. He stated that the Assembly was mindful of the fact that no investor would be attracted to an area without good health facilities and delivery system and said it was collaborating with the European Union (EU) to establish health centres at Eyisam and Asaafa. The DCE said the Assembly would construct nurses' quarters at Otuam, Biriwa, Saltpond, Edumafa and Kormantse under the Community Based Rural Development Project (CBRDP).

Her said that the water problem facing some communities would be a thing of the past with the completion of rehabilitation at the Agona Kwanyarko, Baifikrom and Brimsu water head works. Mr Quainoo-Arthur gave the assurance that the Assembly would do everything possible to create an environment that would enable workers to give off their best.

The workers honoured included Miss Mavis Narh, District Public Health Nurse, who was adjudged the best worker in the District Health Management Team (DHMT), Miss Nelly Kwakye, Best Community Health Nurse, Miss Beatrice Quansah, Best General Nurse, Miss Hannah Dzeagu, Best Midwife and Mr Hakeem Quansah, a Driver.

Anomabo Health Centre was declared as the best health facility while the District Assembly, World Vision Ghana and Plan Ghana were also honoured at the ceremony. They were given cash prizes and certificates.
