Mfantseman Assembly now has full house

The Mfantseman District Assembly now has the full complement of its membership, following the swearing in of four government appointees on Thursday.

The four, Miss Rita Ofori and Miss Gladys Nyinaku, both traders, Mr Kwamina Duncan an Agricultural Engineer and Mr Abdulai Mohammed a transport owner, did not take their oath last September when the others were sworn in due to some misunderstandings over their nominations.

The Assembly is made up of 48 elected members and 21 government appointees.

Mr Kwaku Aboagye, Saltpond District Magistrate, swore the members in.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Isaac Edumadze, Central Regional Minister, who is exercising oversight responsibility over the Mfantseman District following the dismissal of the substantive District Chief Executive, reminded the District Assemblies that the appointment of government representatives to the Assemblies was the prerogative of the President.

"It is wrong for anyone to reject a name submitted by the President."

Mr Edumadze explained that the new members were made to swear before the executive committee because of the expenses the Assembly would incur in convening a full house assembly.

Mr Frank Neequaye, Presiding Member welcomed the new members and urged them to work hard to raise the image of the Assembly.

He urged them to study the Standing Orders and other laws of the assembly concept to enable them participate fully in the deliberations of the house.
