Melcom Foundation donates to institutions

Melcom Care Foundation, the charity wing of the Melcom Group of Companies, has donated boxes of drinks and biscuits, clothing and teddy bears to three institutions in Accra, as part of Ghana’s Republic Day Celebration.

The institutions are Dolly Memorial Crèche and Nursery School, Osu Children’s Home and Loves School.

Mr Godwin Avenorgbo, the Director of Communications, Melcom Group of Companies, in his address, said there was a need to show love and celebrate with children as Ghana marked its 55th Republic Day, on July 1.

Mr Avenorgbo said the Foundation usually donated foods and clothing to children, however, the inclusion of teddy bears would help them to learn to socialise, explaining that, “Teddy bear is for companionship”.

In a special exercise, where the children were made to pick items of their choices, he said it would provide them with an environment to familiarise with the ‘Melcom Shopping Experience’, which privileged children often enjoyed.

He advised the children to be obedient, focused, work hard in order to achieve their goals.

He said among the objectives of the foundation was to assist institutions in two key areas - health and education.

On behalf of their Management, the heads of the three institutions expressed their gratitude to the Foundation for their kind gesture.

Mrs Christiana Addo, the Manageress of the Osu Children’s Home, told the Ghana News Agency that the Government, civil society organisations and some benevolent individuals were supporting the activities of the orphanage.

However, she said, the Home urgently needed vehicles to convey the children to and from school, and to run on errands.
