Media educated on role in demanding social accountability

4H Ghana, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), has organized a day workshop in Koforidua, to build the capacity of the Media on their role in demanding social accountability from the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDA’s).

Participants were educated on the core responsibilities of the MMDAs and their budgetary processes.

Mr Kofi Adjei Mensah, Programmes Director at 4H-Ghana said, it is necessary for the citizenry to know the activities of the Assembly through public hearings, town hall meetings, and durbars, to enable them hold the Assemblies accountable.

He said, the Media is the voice of the voiceless in society, and so it is their responsibility to hold the MMDAs accountable on behalf of the people.

Mr Mensah said, with constant sensitization and education, the people would understand the local government system, and demand accountability, to support the development of the Districts.
