Mayor Visit fresh pupils

Accra, Sept. 11, GNA- Mr. Stanley Nii Adjiri-Blankson, Mayor of Accra on Tuesday visited some selected schools in the metropolis to mark 'My First Day at School' and also access the general conditions of incoming pupils as well as those graduating to senior classes. At the St. Barnabas Pre-School at Osu, it was discovered that 33 Kindergarten (KG) pupils had been admitted so far, while 70 had graduated to form the "class one" class.

Most of the children between ages four to five looked inactive, innocent and occasionally cried, but Grace Korkor Laryea an eight year-old girl rejoiced over her first day at school.

Ms Victoria Okechiri, Headteacher of the school said learning materials were available and that the two years experience in the pre-school would help the children to acquire the foundation for serious academic work in the later years of their education.

Ms. Okechiri said the pupils would be taken through language skills, rhymes, mathematics and environmental studies, among others subjects to sharpen their skills.

The pupils were presented with plastic cups, pencils, books, and confectionaries provided by the Accra Metro office of the Ghana Education Service.

The Mayor asked parents not to leave their wards in school for too long since it put stress on teachers.

The situation was not different at the Accra District Nursery School and the La South Estate primary school where the Mayor also visited.

The KG together with the class one pupils sang a welcoming song to admit the Mayor in their school and shared the experience of their first day at school with him.

Mr. Manasseh Agamah, Officer, Kpeshie Sub-Metro schools called on the Mayor to provide some of the schools with sanitary facilities. The event occurs every year in the curricula of schools to mark new admissions, promotions and graduations.
