Mawuli School investigates students for robbing tutors

The authorities of Mawuli School in Ho are investigating three final year students for allegedly robbing three male tutors of the School last week.

The students allegedly broke into the bungalows of the tutors, including the School’s Chaplain, and made away with personal effects including, huge sums of money, Mr Mawusi J.K. Osei-Nyansah, the headmaster of the School, said at the weekend at a Parents Teacher Association (PTA) Meeting.

He said investigations were almost through and assured that “full disciplinary” action would be taken against the culprits.

The Ghana News Agency (GNA) was told that last month, three female tutors were also robbed of valuables in their bungalows.

Also, last year, some students reportedly broke into the Senior House Master’s office on the Administration block and stole unspecified amount of money.

Mr Osei-Nyansah said it appeared most of the students did not know why they were in school and recounted how a first year student at the beginning of the term stole a senior’s GH¢ 400.00 meant for school fees.

He said the students had “bad attitudes” towards learning, saying, some final year students boycotted the School’s mock examination.

Mr Osei-Nyansah urged parents to regularly visit their wards and advise them on the importance of education.

Mr Gameli Ahorlu, the PTA Chairman of the School, condemned the situation but assured parents that the issues would be addressed.

He said the PTA was doing its best to create a conducive learning environment for the students and urged them to appreciate the efforts of their parents.

Mr Ahorlu said the PTA had completed the School’s fence wall, provided desks, a power plant and was working towards addressing security and sanitation challenges facing the school.
