Mathew 25 House fetes hospital patients

Mathew 25 House, an HIV and AIDS care centre on Christmas day feted patients on admission and staff on duty at the Central hospital, St Joseph and the Seventh Day Adventist hospitals to show them love.

More than 1,500 packed foods and water were distributed on the day to the vulnerable and the needy in the society.

Monsignor Bobby Benson, Founder and Director of the Mathew 25 House, who led a team of pastors and youth volunteers distributed food and water at all the wards in the three hospitals and relatives of patients on admission and others on the street including beggars and people who were selling on the streets.

It was all joy when the team got to the various hospitals where staff members on duty including nurses, security personnel, cleaners and many others were given packs of food and water to serve as lunch on Christmas day.

The gesture is an annual affair instituted by Monsignor Benson, many years ago to reach out to the poor, needy and the afflicted in society to demonstrate the love of God and the meaning of the birth of Christ.

Reverend Yiadom Boakye, Chairman of the Koforidua Local Council of Churches who was part of the team that shared the food, described the gesture as laudable and the true meaning of love and commended Monsignor Benson for the initiative.

He expressed the hope that from next year the entire local council of churches would join the programme to ensure its sustenance.

He said reaching out to the poor is a practical demonstration of Christianity and therefore must be supported.

Some of the patients at the hospitals told GNA, that the food and water was a blessing because they could not get food to buy because of the festive occasion and the hospitals canteens were not active.
