Mate drowns at mass baptism

A man identified as Teye Danso has drowned at Mangoase in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region during a mass baptism exercise in a river by a church from Argomanya.

The body of the deceased was retrieved after four hours of search. The remains has been deposited at the VRA Hospital Morgue.

According to the Public Relations Officer of Asougyaman District Office of the National Disaster Organization, Vivian Okine, during the baptism procedure by the Church at about 11am, the deceased, who is a driver’s mate, decided to swim but was nowhere to be found after hours forcing his driver to raise an alarm.

The name of the church is yet to be disclosed.

In a related development, a 54-year-old fisherman at Bumpata in the Affram Plains South District, Kwaku Odoom has also drowned in the Affram River.

The body of the deceased was retrieved from the shore on Monday after two days search by local fishermen proved futile.
