Masons clean Swedru

Agona Swedru, Aug 6, GNA - Members of the Agona Swedru Masons Association at the weekend defied a heavy down pour to undertake a six-hours cleanup exercise at Agona Swedru.

They swept the streets and cleaned gutters at the main taxi rank, the Swedru Texaco Petrol Filling Station area, the Mandela Market taxi rank and other parts of the town.

The Chairman of Association, Mr. Yaw Baah, said the exercise was the contribution of the members ensuring environmental cleanliness in the town.

He said the Association would initiate an anti HIV/AIDS programme and seek financial assistance for the members to expand their businesses.

Mr. Baah said the exercise by the eight-month old Association with about 100 members would not be a nine-day wonder but a regular feature to curb the incidence of malaria and other diseases.

He appealed to the people and organizations, storekeepers and sellers to assist the District Assembly to manage waste by desisting from throwing rubbish about indiscriminately.

Mr. Baah called on all masons in the District to join the Association to enable them to get support from the government and financial institutions.
