Manya Krobo celebrate 5th anniversary of Nene Detse

The chiefs and people of Manya Krobo Traditional Area have marked the fifth anniversary of the enstoolment of Nene Detse, the development chief, of the Manya Krobo Traditional Area.

Nene Detse, known in private life as Mr Kwasi Kafele, is a Canadian citizen who has adopted Manya Krobo Traditional Area as his second home.

Since his installation, Nene Detse has initiated development projects in the traditional area and these include supporting the education of 43 vulnerable children.

He has provided financial support for the Leventis Foundation to train young people in farming.

Nene Detse introduced some international researchers in HIV to Manya Krobo area and as a result of their findings an effective HIV health promotion strategies were developed for the area and provided funding to support the care of HIV orphans in Lower Manya Krobo area.

He also funded the rehabilitation of a borehole at Dawa Korlewaa.

Nene Detse has provided desktop computers to almost all Senior High Schools in the Manya Krobo area.

He is working with the Lions Club of Toronto to establish an Eye Clinic at Odumase Krobo.

The Konor of Manya Krobo, Nene Sakite II, congratulated Nene Detse on his fifth anniversary and expressed his appreciation for his contribution to the development of Manya Krobo .

Nene Detse called for the extension of the selection of women of accomplishment in the traditional area who are honoured annually at Yokama festival as part of the annual Ngmayem Festival to young ladies between ages 18 and 25 years.

He said this would encourage the young ladies to aspire for excellence and promised to support next year’s programme with GhC 4,000.00 to be used as prize for the four young ladies to be honoured on the Yokama Day and promised to provide sponsorship for the next four years.
