Manya Krobo Market Queens will not join demonstration

Koforidua, Oct 7, GNA - The Manya-Krobo Market Queen Mothers have said they would not support any demonstration against the Manya Krobo District Assembly over the poor state of markets in the district.

They said problems of the markets in the district existed long before the assumption of office the New Patriotic Party government.

A press statement thumb-printed by four Queen Mothers; Manye Koryoe, Manye Dewi, Manye Joyce and Manye Dede said within the short time that the government had been in office, the District Administration had taken steps to develop the markets.

They cited the clearing of a refuse dump, which had been at the Agormanya market for over 20 years and the extension of electricity to the Market as some of the achievements of the Assembly.

The Queens said a 24-seat water closet toilet with showers and urinals attached were under construction at the Agormanya Market to enhance sanitation.

The statement said the District Assembly had build market stores at Sekesua and Asesewa, which have been allocated to some traders while a market under construction at Akateng was nearing completion.

It concluded: ''On account of the above we are not prepared to join any group that wants to use the poor state of the Agormanya market as an excuse to put a blame on the District Assembly.''
