Manso-Kwankyiabo raises funds for electrification project

Kwankyiabo (Ash), Feb. 16, GNA - The people of Manso-Kwankyiabo in the Amansie West District of Ashanti at the weekend realised 105 million cedis at a fund-raising harvest towards electrification and other projects.

According to Mr Akwasi Kyeremateng, assemblyman for the area, the project is estimated to cost about 100 million cedis. He said the Amansie West District Assembly had donated five low tension poles towards the project while Mr Darko Mantukwah, a Cape Coast-based businessman had also provided another five poles.

Mr Kyeremateng said the assembly had also supported the community with two boreholes to alleviate their acute water problem during the dry season.

Speaking at the function, Nana Ampofo Frimpong II, chief of the town, commended the people for their communal spirit and urged them to keep it up.

He appealed to citizens resident outside to visit home regularly and to support the development of the town and also asked the elders to offer land to the youth who were interested in farming. Nana Frimpong urged the people to embrace the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) by paying their premium so that they could get easy health care.

Mr Kwabena Atta, chairman of the Unit Committee, said besides the money realised at the fund-raising, the people were paying special levies of 40,000 cedis per male resident and 30,000 cedis per female resident, while non-resident men would pay 50,000 cedis and women 30,000 cedis.
