Mankessim Zongo chieftaincy dispute resolved

Baifikrom (C/R), Oct. 22, GNA - A seven-year old dispute over who should be the Zongo chief of Mankessim has been amicably resolved. Alhaji Usman Gibrine, who won the contest and his contestant Ibrahim Agah, Chief Butcher of Mankessim have now smoked the peace pipe ..

Alhaji Iddrisu Alhassan, Head of the Zongo community and initiated the peace move with the support of Mallam Issaka, Chief Imam of Mankessim, Mallam Ibrahim, Chief Imam of Saltpond, Mallam Iddi Donkor, Chief Imam of Abura Dunkwa Abusuapanyin Ababio and other Moslem leaders in and around Mankessim.

A special durbar was organized to mark the reconciliation of the two factions.

Speaking at the function, Alhaji Alhassan called on chiefs to unite all their subjects and cautioned them against acting on rumours to sideline some sections of the people.

Alhaji Alhassan appealed to Moslems in and around Mankessim not only to pray for peace in the town but also help in finding lasting solutions to the protracted chieftaincy dispute, which had retarded the development of the town.

The two former contestants pledged to cooperate to improve the living conditions of the Moslem community and promote the tenets of the Holy Koran.

Prayers were said for the prosperity of the nation and its leaders.
