Manhyia North trains more volunteers to control infant mortality

Volunteers from 60 communities in the Manhyia North Sub-Metro of the Ghana Health Service in Ashanti Region have been trained under the Nutrition and Malaria Control for Child Survival Project (NMCCSP).

Madam Comfort Suglo, Public Health Officer of the Tafo Hospital in Kumasi, said the project was aimed at improving utilization of selected community-based health and nutrition services for children aged 0-2 years in the sub-metropolitan area.

She said the project was in support of existing routine services and activities within the Public Health sector of the Ghana Health Service, to improve upon their health delivery.

Madam Suglo was speaking at a brief ceremony to introduce 24 volunteers tagged Growth Promoters(GP) under the NMCCSP, to the Pankrono area.

They represented four communities in the area namely Adabraka West and East, Pankrono estates and Pankrono Zongo.

She said the GPs were literally to bring healthcare to the door steps of the communities especially children and mothers.

The Assembly-members for the area, Messrs Ernest Owusu, Frank Dwomoh and Samuel Okoso commended the Public Health officers for their efforts and pledged their fullest support for the sustainability of the project.
