Mamponteng police retrieve stockpile of arms

Mamponteng (Ash), Oct 22, GNA - The Mamponteng Police in the Kwabre District have retrieved a cache of arms and ammunition hidden in a bush between Asonomaso and Safo believed to have been hidden by armed robbers for their operations.

Alhaji Kwasi Yeboah, District Chief Executive, said this at the second ordinary meeting of the district assembly on Tuesday. He said the Police have mounted 24-hour surveillance to protect life and property in the district.

Alhaji Yeboah called on the communities to form neighbourhood watch committees to ensure security.

The DCE expressed concern about land disputes, which the administration is spending a lot of time to settle. He appealed to Chiefs who are members of the Assembly to advise their colleagues to desist from selling the same parcel of land to more than one person.

"The assembly has therefore taken a decision to refer all such cases to the law courts and if possible to the Asantehene for redress". The DCE said 50 boreholes are to be dug in some communities with funding from the German and Ghana governments under the Community Water and Sanitation Programme.

Alhaji Yeboah said another 300 boreholes had been constructed throughout the district from January 2004, adding that, by the end of 2004, all settlements would get access to good drinking water.
