Make Gurune Language Examinable - DCE

Bolgatanga, April 8, GNA - Mr Francis Akurugu Asampana, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bongo in the Upper East Region on Monday appealed to the Ghana Education Service to make the study of Gurune Language examinable at Junior High and Senior High levels.

Mr Asampana made the appeal at the launch of the Gurune Language Dictionary, co-authored by Professor M. E. Kropp Dakabu of the University of Ghana, Mr Awinkine Atintono and Mr. Ephraim Aviah Nsoh both of the University of Education of Winneba.

The DCE explained that if the Gurune Language was made examinable, it would motivate the youth to study their own culture and easily understand and accept their identity.

He said it would also equip them with mastery of the language with which they could explain government policies to their parents and others who had not received formal education.

He appealed to stakeholders and philanthropists especially, citizens from the region to help promote the study of the language. He commended the authors of the Dictionary and said it would serve as reference point for people teaching the Language, as well as researchers and other social workers.
