Mafi-Dedukope to launch 500 million cedi water project

Awutu-Bawjiase (C/R), Feb. 14, GNA - Citizens of Mafi-Dedukope in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region, are to launch a 500 million cedi "Water Development Fund" to supplement government's efforts at connecting the community to the main Volta Water Works Station at Aveyime Battor.

Besides the water project, revenue accruing from the fund would be used to support the construction of school blocks and a health centre for the community.

Mr James Cudjoe Agornyrah, National Vice President of Mafi-Dedukope Citizens Association (MDCA), announced this when he met members of the Awutu-Bawjiase branch of the Association at Bawjiase on Wednesday. Mr Agornyrah reminded all Mafi-Dedukope citizens throughout the country of the need to visit home regularly to contribute their quota towards the development of the community.

He reiterated the important role good drinking water played in effective health development and charged all stakeholders in the projects to educate the people on the need to pay levies instituted by the Water Development Implementation Committee established by the chiefs and people.

Mr Agornyrah announced that the Water Development Fund would be officially launched at Mafi-Dedukope on the February 24 and appealed to both resident and non-resident citizens to prepare towards the launching to ensure its success.

He made it clear that without their active participation and generous contributions, the traditional authorities alone could not raise the 100,000,000 cedis counterpart fund the community had been requested to contribute towards the implementation of the project. Mr Agornyrah gave the assurance that the chiefs and opinion leaders would do all in their power to ensure that their dream to provide potable water for the community became a reality.
