Mafi Aklamador gets Community Library Complex

Mafi Aklamador (V/R), Oct 11, GNA - A GH¢ 15,000 Community Library Complex for Mafi Aklamador Primary School, was inaugurated at the weekend at Mafi Aklamador in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region.

The financial and technical support for the facility was provided by SOS Hermann-Gmeiner International College (SOS-HGIC) in Tema in collaboration with their international partners in Norway. Speaking at the function, Mr Israel Titi-Ofei, Principal of the SOS College, said the project, which is the first of its kind in the district was initiated by the academic facility as part of its social responsibility.

Mr Titi-Ofei said community service is a philosophy of the college, hence the involvement of the students in the execution of the project, to help improve on the living standards of the people. Togbe Tutu V, Benkumhene of Bakpa Traditional Area, and Head of the Human Resource Management and Development Unit of the North Tongu District of the Ghana Education Service, said the project had come at the right time because it would inculcate reading habits in pupils in the community.

He urged the people to take good care of the facility in order to prolong its life span.

Mr Cornelius Kodjo Yakah, a citizen of the town who initiated the project, commended SOS College and its foreign partners for their numerous support towards the development efforts of the people. Torgbe Karkidawa Kpevu, Chief of Mafi Aklamador, appealed to SOS-HGIC and its overseas partners to continue to assist the community to achieve a number of long-term community development goals. He said the development assistance should include the completion of a junior high school; transformation of the community into a major food producing area, and the development of water bodies to improve fish stock cultivation and access to fresh water for large scale irrigation.

Mr Ampofo Onyina, Business Manager of AMAL Bank, who chaired the function, pledged the bank's readiness to support the community in its development efforts. 11 Oct. 10
