Madina Mamprusi community gets new chief

A new chief for the Mamprusi Community in Madina suburb of Accra was installed at the weekend.

In a key-note speech at the ceremony, Chief Chackson Osmanu Issahaku, the overall Chief of Mamprusi Communities in the Greater Accra Region who conducted the installation, said sub-chiefs in the various communities served as a rallying point for organising their kinsmen to contribute to community and national development.

He said in order to achieve development, however, there was the need for the people to .come together in unity and to eschew all divisive tendencies so they could plan in a constructive manner.

He urged the Mamprusi community in Madina to support the new chief and to accord him their full co-operation to enable him to discharge his duties to the satisfaction of all.

Chief Issahaku who is also the Vice Chairman of the Greater Accra Council of Zongo Chiefs, also admonished the new chief to be of good conduct, tolerant and a father to all members of the community.

Also present at the ceremony was Chief Alhaji Imoro Baba Issah, Chairman of the Ayawaso Council of Zongo Chiefs. He lauded the Mamprusi community for the peaceful atmosphere that characterised the selection and installation of the new chief, observing that in some places the issue of succession had often been marked by disunity and violence.

"Chieftaincy is from God, and therefore, it behoves on us to honour and respect our chiefs. When we put a chief in place, we should support him at all times,” he stated.

The newly-installed Naba Bangimarugu pledged his loyalty to Chief Issahaku and promised to lead his people with humility and integrity.

The well attended ceremony, which was characterized by a colourful display of rich smocks and Mamprusi traditional drumming and dancing, was witnessed by members of the Ayawaso Council of Zongo Chiefs.

In attendance to show their solidarity were chiefs from the Wala, Dagomba and Moshie communities in Greater Accra, as well as delegates from the Mamprusi communities in Kumasi and Takoradi.
